Founded in 1945, the Conference is the oldest and most respected program of its kind.
Each week, approximately 60 participants in the chamber music program are coached in small, pre-arranged ensembles by the Conference’s distinguished faculty.
Composers are invited to submit scores for judges’ selection of ten Fellows.
Each week, approximately sixty talented amateurs—string and wind players, pianists, and singers—participate in a workshop that includes intensive coaching, opportunities for ad hoc playing, attendance at professional concerts and discussions with young composers.

The Composers Conference and Chamber Music Workshops, guided for nearly 40 years by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Mario Davidovsky, provides a unique two-fold experience: First, it gives a select number of young, emerging composers the opportunity to immerse themselves in an intense two-week composition workshop as well as showcase one of their compositions in a live, professional concert. Second, it offers for talented amateur chamber musicians a stimulating workshop environment that features professional coaching from our nationally-renowned faculty members, as well as opportunities for large-ensemble readings, masterclasses, workshops, concerts, and much more.
